Hockey Anthem and more
January 17, 2009

Ok, hold on... Let me catch my breath. Let me let my heartbeat slow a little... Alright, I think I'm better now!

This has been a BUSY week!! It started by me flying to Vancouver a day late; I arrived in sunny Vancouver on Tuesday of this week to go to Whistler, BC. I was filming a Christmas special there along side George Canyon and Jessie Farrell for CMT. It's a great show we shot in one of the most beautiful spots in the world.

For me, this was a very special shoot because I got to involve someone close to me as a part of my segment of the show... my son, Jordan. I was approached by CMT, asking if JP would like to be a part of the special so I asked him and he said he would love to. He's not a country performer, he's actually a rock singer/lead guitar player but he wasn't going to turn down a chance to play with his old man on stage. And he wasn't going to miss a chance to promote himself as an artist. He did an amazing job.

Another extremely incredible thing happened this week, which was equally exciting for Jordan and I both. I sang the national anthems at the Vancouver Canucks game against the Phoenix Coyotes. It may not sound like a big deal but for me it was HUGE!! It started with a sound check at 5:00, which was pretty cool although the place was empty and I wasn't really very nervous. Then I was asked to come back at 6:30 to be ready to do the national anthems of both the U.S.A. and Canada and had to stand there and get nothing but more and more nervous as the clock was counting down to the drop of the puck. As they announced my name, I walked out and stood with nerves flying and started to sing. There beside me stood Roberto Luongo making his first start in 52 days! I was comfortable singing the songs but I realized after I was done that my knees were knocking!!

What a RUSH!! I've dreamt of doing that since I was a little boy listening to my transistor radio under my pillow to the voices of the play-by-play action from Jim Robson and Tom Larscheid. At the beginning of the game, they would always announce the anthem singer and I always wished that was me... and now it was!!! Thanks to Cam at the Canucks organization for helping this good, old, hockey-playing Canadian kids dream come true!!
Look for new dates coming real soon and maybe we can all sing the Canadian anthem together!!
